Welcome to Cumbria!
Cumbria is a delightful county in the northwest region of
England and is an ideal place to visit any time of year. Cumbria is home to the popular
Lake District National Park.
The park was established in 1951 and lies entirely within Cumbria.
There are approximately 400 towns and villages in Cumbria. Some of the
most popular to visit include
Keswick in the north-central region,
Ambleside and
Windermere in the south-central area, and
Kendal
in the south. The Cumbria region offers plenty to see and do with its
mountains, parks, lakes, gardens, stone circles, museums, art galleries
and an abundance of wildlife. Some interesting places to visit in
Keswick include the
Mirehouse Historic House and Gardens, the
Cumberland Pencil Museum, and the
Honister Slate Mine. A not-to-be-missed attraction near Ambleside is the
Rydal Mount and Gardens, the historic home of poet William Wordsworth. For those looking for a picturesque spot to relax in or enjoy a picnic,
High Sweden Bridge may just do the trick. The bridge is located on an uphill stroll from Ambleside.
